Patrol ships are small and fast which makes them the idea ship to run non-hostile missions to maintain a peaceful maritime landscape and alert more war-ready vessels of impending danger. Patrol ships were quite useful during World War II, they saved thousands of lives by scouting ahead of the allies’ war fleet. Unfortunately, while crewmembers of patrol vessels were scouting for danger from enemy ships, they were being exposed to danger in their own ship. These men were exposed to asbestos from boilers, piping, and ventilation systems.

Anyone who served on a patrol ship should speak with their doctor regarding asbestos related diseases, such as Mesothelioma and Lung Cancer, and the treatment options available.
