USS Jason
The USS Jason was a Navy Repair Ship built during WWII. She served as a repair vessel in several U.S. military engagements. Like other ships built in WWII, she was made using materials contaminated iwht asbestos.

The USS Jason served as a repair vessel during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. Several times, even under enemy attack, she turned seemingly hopeless wrecks into a rejuvenated fighting ships that were again able to stand and fight. The USS Jason received a Korean Service Medal.
Repair ships are the single most important reason that other ships in the fleet are able to continue operating. Repair ships rendezvous with damaged vessels at sea and perform on site repairs, which allow the damaged ship to continue its cruise without stopping at a naval shipyard for repairs. Quite frequently, repair vessels were able to keep other ships afloat and save thousands of lives in the process. Unfortunately, while crewmembers of repair vessels were fixing other ships, they were being exposed to asbestos from boilers, piping, and ventilation systems.
