Experienced Lawyers For IUD Injury Cases

Mirena is an IUD (intrauterine device) used to provide birth control for women and can be effective for up to five years. The device is manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and can only be inserted by a medical professional. Unfortunately, the Mirena IUD has been linked to serious side effects for some users, including embedding into the uterine wall, perforation of the uterus, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and other serious complications. If you have had the Mirena IUD device surgically implanted and have suffered medical complications or you believe a loved one has died from such complications, seek legal counsel immediately.

At The Gori Law Firm, we have been helping injured clients and their families with defective medical device litigation for more than 20 years. Using our knowledge and skills along with compassion for the suffering each individual client has had to endure, we aggressively seek full and fair compensation. Let a seasoned law firm handle your personal injury case. Do not hesitate to reach out for help — we are ready to hear your story.

Mirena IUD Side Effects And Complications

The Mirena IUD is a small, plastic T-shaped device, implanted in the women’s uterus as a form of birth control. A synthetic hormone called levonorgestrel is released in low doses. The insertion must be done by a medical professional. Unfortunately, if the device migrates it can lead to serious complications, including embedding into the uterine wall itself. Sometimes this causes perforation. A doctor would then have to surgically remove the Mirena IUD.

Serious complications arise from the migration of this IUD device, including puncturing the abdominal cavity and even internal organs such as the bladder and intestines. In fact, between November 2007 and August 2012, the FDA received more than 45,000 reports of serious adverse effects from the use of the Mirena IUD.

If you have experienced any of these serious side effects or complications, immediately seek medical attention:

  • Embedding into the uterus
  • Perforation of the uterus
  • Abscesses/infections
  • Erosion of the uterus or vagina
  • Infertility
  • Birth defects
  • Peritonitis (inflammation of the membrane lining the abdominal cavity)
  • Intestine or bladder perforation/obstruction
  • PID (pelvic inflammatory disease)
